The haematologist deals with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases of blood and bone marrow. The bone marrow produces the cellular components of blood. The best-known disease of the bone marrow is the anaemia.
Further haematological diseases are disturbances of the coagulation system, often caused by liver disease, immunological phenomena or genetic causes (haemophilia).
